Putnam County is one of the top fishing destinations in Florida offering excellent fishing year round.
The Putnam County region is well known for its pristine and protected recreation areas which offer numerous public boat ramps and dock space for boater access to all of our local waterways. Excellent shoreline fishing is also abundant along all of our lakes, rivers and creeks.
Being one of the few rivers in the world that flows North, the St Johns River runs through Putnam County from Indian County to the Atlantic Ocean. This offers you over 300 miles of exploration on the St Johns River, its lakes and tributaries.
Home to hundreds of thousands of acres of great waterways and fishing holes, Putnam County is well known for being the "Bass Capital of the World". In addition to great bass fishing, you will find other freshwater, saltwater and brackish species abundant in our waters. Freshwater species also include bluegill, warmouth, black crappie, shell cracker and catfish. Saltwater species like flounder, sea trout, red fish and tarpon also inhabit our waters. In the winter and fall seasons the abundance of stripped bass can be found due to the shrimp migration in the brackish waters.
Major fishing tournaments also call Putnam County home with many featured on sportsman channels like ESPN. One specifically frequenting Putnam County is the BASS organization (Bassmasters Anglers Sportsman Society). These nationally recognized tournaments as well as local fishing chapters drive hundreds of boaters to the region annually producing a tremendous boost to the local economy.
Be it leisure fishing or competitive tournaments, Putnam County has you covered when it comes to fishing and boating.
